Link in bio for Tutors The subject, the level, and what a parent should say first.

A tutor link in bio is a narrow offer: the subject, the level you actually teach, whether you meet in a room or on a call, and how a family should start. It is not a classroom you already have, and it is not every subject under “academic support.”

Languages, tools, and the notes between them

I design small languages and the CLIs that keep them honest. Currently at Harbor Labs, previously on the typechecker for a research notebook that got out of hand in the best way.

Now

Building Ink, a typed notebook format for people who write with code sitting next to the sentence. Harbor is the CLI around it — evals, snapshots, and a boringly reliable local workflow.

Writing

Occasional notes on type systems that stay out of the way, local-first tools, and why most developer portfolios look like résumé PDFs with extra steps.

What a family needs in one screen

Alex’s page is a developer portfolio. Minimal still fits: a few facts and a door.

Subject and level

Algebra through precalculus, beginner French, the AP you will teach. “All subjects” means a parent cannot tell if you can help their child.

In the room or on a call

Neighborhood and a library, or the video tool and the time zone. Say which one is the default.

How long a session is

Fifty minutes, weekly, or a short intensive before an exam. The shape matters more than a slogan about confidence.

What a parent should say

Grade, the topic that is stuck, and the exam date if there is one. Ask for those above the form.

What you will not teach

The subjects and ages outside your offer. A refusal saves the student a week.

A subject, not a school

Teachers on SayHi already have a class and a district. You are hired by a family for an hour. Write the page that way.

01

Level in the same line as the subject

Calculus and third-grade arithmetic are both “math,” and they are not the same tutor.

02

A sample of how you explain

One paragraph of a worked idea, in your voice. It is more useful than a list of test scores you lifted.

03

The student is not content

Do not post a child’s name, school, or graded work. A public URL does not need a testimonial that identifies them.

Not the classroom page

If you are a teacher moonlighting, keep the school’s weekly note on the teacher page and this offer here. Parents of your own students should not have to guess which hat you are wearing.

Minimal

Subject, level, and a paragraph. The tutor demo uses Minimal.

Elegant

If the practice is test prep and should feel like a small studio card.

How to make a personal website. The guide is the general build. A tutor page is the short version: one offer, one proof of how you explain, one way to write.

Publish the page

Pick the level you want more of

Write that level in the headline. The adjacent level can be a sentence.

Say where the hour happens

A library branch, your online room, or the family’s kitchen if you travel. Include the limit.

Tell parents the first facts

Grade, stuck topic, exam date. You can refuse notes that are only “rates?”

Questions

Can a family book a recurring hour here?

No. Describe the session and link a scheduler if you use one. SayHi does not hold a weekly slot.

How is this different from the teacher page?

Teachers are writing to families of a class they already teach, often through a school. Tutors are offering a subject by the hour to people who are not on a roster.

Should I publish a rate?

If the rate is stable, yes. A range is fine. Hiding it forces a message that only asks the rate.

Can I upload a student’s before-and-after scores?

Not with their name or school. Even unnamed, make sure a parent would recognize the post as something they allowed.

What about group classes?

Say the size, the level, and the start date. If the group is full, say full. Do not leave a join link up.
