Printed posters pinned in a row, a stand-in for a portfolio wall
Replace with drawings
Color swatches on paper, not an illustration series
Palette, only if it is yours
A lamp on a studio table, not a commissioned drawing
Demo still, not the work

Link in bio for Illustrators Open or closed, what you will draw, and how the shop differs from the jobs.

An illustrator link in bio has a status. Commissions are open or they are not. Art directors need the kinds of jobs you take and a way to write. Everyone else may want a print. Those buyers should not share one unlabeled grid.

Portrait of Nia Voss in her studio

Nia Voss

Identity, objects, and the rooms they occupy

Independent designer in Brooklyn. I make identities that can sit on a shelf as well as a screen — books, lamps, marks, and the paper they begin on.

Brooklyn

Studio Voss

A small practice. Brand worlds, objects, and the analog studies that keep both from going glossy.

Cloth-bound brand book and material samples on a walnut desk

Atelier Lumen

2025

Identity and a cloth-bound brand book for a lighting studio that still pours plaster in-house.

Three abstract geometric posters on a white studio wall

Civic Marks

2024

A poster series of rust, cream, and charcoal. No slogans. The shapes had to hold a wall on their own.

Handmade ceramic table lamp on a plaster plinth

Lamp No. 4

2025

Bone glaze, olive foot, a shade that does not try to be a sculpture.

Elsewhere

Status, jobs, shop

The stills above are Nia’s studio objects, labeled as stand-ins. Portfolio is the layout. Upload the drawings.

Open or closed

A month, or “closed until the book is in.” Update it. An evergreen “DM me” keeps inquiries coming after you have stopped.

What you will draw

Covers, editorial, children’s books, the list you mean. If you do not draw logos, say that, or the designer inquiries will arrive anyway.

Prints

The shop you already run, with what is in stock. A print is not a commission. Give it a different link.

Clients

Publications or studios you can name. Three is plenty. A logo wall of every favor you have done is not a client list.

How you charge

Day rate, per piece, or “quote after the brief.” Pick the one you say on the phone. The page should not hide it in a PDF only.

Art directors skim for the job

The artist page is a gallery and a show. Designers arrange identity systems. You are taking a brief, or you are selling a print.

01

Status in the first line

Open, waitlist, or closed. The drawings can prove the work after that fact is clear.

02

Prints do not look like estimates

A shop button next to a commission button, same size, is how a reader buys a poster instead of hiring you, or the reverse.

03

The brief you want

Audience, deadline, and whether the rights are for a cover or a campaign. Ask for those, not for “any collab.”

Gallery versus assignment

Artists

Shows, a studio visit, a commission that is the object itself.

Illustrators

A brief from someone else, a usage, and a shop that is optional.

Templates for this work

Portfolio

Drawings at width. The illustrator demo starts here, after you replace the stand-in stills.

Bento

If prints, a sketch, and a client list should sit as separate cards.

How to build a one-page portfolio. A few pieces and a sentence under each. For illustrators the sentence has to include the job and whether the books are open.

Publish the page

Set the status

Then choose eight drawings that match the jobs you want. Leave the rest in the archive.

Split shop and client work

Different headings. A reader should not have to guess which images are for sale as objects.

Name three clients you can stand behind

If a contract forbids the name, describe the kind of job instead of breaking it.

Questions

Can someone buy a print on SayHi?

No. Link the shop. The page can show the image and say it is for sale elsewhere.

How is this different from the artist page?

Artists lead with a gallery, a show list, and a studio commission. This page leads with assignment status, usage, and an optional shop.

Should rates be public?

A shape, yes: day rate or per piece. A fake “email for any budget” invites briefs you cannot afford to answer.

Can I post client work under NDA?

No. Show personal work or jobs you are allowed to credit. The page will not hide an image behind a login.

Do you embed a drawing timelapse?

A YouTube block links to the video. It does not play inside the page.
